bachelor's degree programmes

The undergraduate programmes offered at the university include the following bachelor's degree programmes:

These degree programmes are designed in such a way that extensive overlaps in content allow for a high degree of permeability between the degree programmes in general and church music studies in particular. The possibility of taking the major examination for the church music ministry is also provided for.

Protestant church music

Bachelor of Music

The eight-semester Bachelor of Music (Protestant Church Music) programme is at the heart of the curriculum at the University of Protestant Church Music in Bayreuth. It continues the proven "Bayreuth profile" in terms of content by placing a special emphasis on the (church) music education component: alternative specialisations in the subjects of children's choir conducting, popular music or wind choir conducting expand the individual artistic profile beyond the core subjects of organ and conducting. This is complemented by a wide range of instrumental teaching in the field of keyboard instruments.

The qualificationregulations contain the general admission requirements and the components of the aptitude test (see p. 11 ff in particular).

Conducting/ Field of study: Choral conducting

Bachelor of Music

The aim of this programme, which – like the organ and piano teaching programmes closely related to the Bachelor's programme in Protestant Church Music, is to train artistically versatile conductors who are capable of working at all levels of choral conducting, from professional choirs and cantors to jazz, rock, pop and children's choirs. The university's ensembles are available to students for practical work. Lessons in orchestral conducting broaden the spectrum and open up career prospects, as does the strong music education component. An extensive range of elective modules is also available here, enabling students to take the C-level church music examination and facilitating their entry into the church music programme.

The qualification regulations contain the general admission requirements and the components of the aptitude test (see p. 12 ff).

Artistic organ playing

Bachelor of Music

This eight-semester course with an artistic focus centres on developing a broad repertoire ranging from the beginnings of organ music to the present day, as well as improvisation. The aim is to train individual artists who can realise their own ideas at a high level. The future career profile is expanded by the practical instrumental subjects of piano and harpsichord, as well as by instrumental teaching content. Due to the similarity in content to the church music degree programme, it is also possible to take the church music C examination, which is intended to facilitate entry into the church music degree programme.

The qualificationregulations contain the general admission requirements and the components of the aptitude test (see p. 13 ff).

piano teaching

Bachelor of Music

Alongside training in fundamental piano skills, this piano teaching degree programme focuses on the forms and methods of instrumental teaching. In addition to acquiring a repertoire for solo performance, another focus is on interactive music-making (song accompaniment, chamber music). The diverse range of courses in the field of "music education" prepares students for a career in instrumental teaching. Furthermore, there is considerable overlap in content with the church music programme, which offers students the opportunity to take the C-level examination in church music or to facilitate their entry into a church music programme.

The qualificationregulations contain the general admission requirements and the components of the aptitude test (see p. 14 ff).
